Walsall’s Planning Committee agreed to defer a decision on a planning application to redevelop the now derelict “Cavalcade” pub site on Stroud Avenue, Short Heath, Willenhall reports Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Shires.
Developers had sought to build a development of 13 two and three bed affordable homes, 10 one bed supported living apartments and an 8 bed physical disability unit on the site of the former “Cavalcade” public house.
Local residents want the site redeveloped to remove what is undoubtedly a blot on the local landscape but feel that this an over-development of the site which creates parking and traffic issues on what is a busy local distributor road.
There are concerns also about the fact that the 10 supported living one bed apartments are being crammed into two. three storey blocks prominently sited, restricting visibility on a long sweeping bend adding to already dangerous conditions for motorists, pedestrians and property.
The committee felt that there were too many loose ends with the application as pointed out by Sandra King who spoke on behalf of the residents and agreed with a suggestion from Lib Dem councillor Ian Shires who also spoke in support of the residents, that the application should be deferred to allow for further consultation.
